I just watched Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter for the first time. It's lumbering, poorly paced, and endearingly silly. I was annoyed by the hero, a handsome and vapid dingus whom we were constantly directed to love. The harder a movie tries to make me love a character, the more I dig in my heels and shout "NO!" Two very solid horror/comedy movies from New Zealand, which is apparently full of horror nerd filmmakers with small amounts of money and lots of love for genre films. I'd had no idea.

Hey, everybody, I just attended a theatrical adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula at a local college.  Are you jealous?  Don't be.  It was awful.  It was the most hilariously bad production that I've ever walked out of at intermission.  It was partly the fault of the adaptation, which was poorly conceived and poorly told.  There's no need to futz ( Read more... )
